Isn't It a Little Late to "Meet Marie"

So the Marie Johns campaign has a squadron of gay guys canvassing my hood (Rose Park area of Georgetown). Props to the Johns people for knowing the hood well enough to know to send a squadron of gay guys to canvass for her. However, while she gets props for the crew she sent to canvass for her, she gets a big "huh" for the flier itself. The flier announces a "Meet Marie" event this week on P St. Maybe its just me but this seems a little late in the game for a "Meet Marie" event. Where were these folks a couple of months ago.

I think the window of opportunity closed on Marie Johns. Too bad, she could have made this race a bit more interesting.

I agree - what's not to like about a woman (or man for that matter) who has some outside-of-government experience wanting to take on a tough political job?

I've seen her on U Street several times, but at this point she's just laying the groundwork for her next campaign. Maybe she'll take on Kwame Brown in '08 or just wait out the first Fenty administration.

I think an independent run for Mayor by Johns would have been a ton of fun, and maybe would have given her the freedom to really be the candidate of change and reform. I still believe that a candidate could run a REAL reform campaign in this city and win. I hope she stays involved in the political process and continues to sharpen her outsider image.

I think you're right about the possibility of an independent campaign succeeding at some point - I hope that happens soon. If for no other reason than that those of us that are registered independents actually have some kind of voice in the city's political process.

Just for the hell of it, you should post the link from Raw Fisher that lets you see who your neighbors have contributed to in the Mayor's race: http://election.dcwanna.be/contributions/neighbor_search
